The WCC organisers would like to extend a warm welcome to the inner-city cricketers of Luton and London South, the two new teams in the Wisden City Cup of 2012.

Luton, run by the Bedfordshire Cricket Board, and London South, run by the Surrey Cricket Board, will join Leicester and London North (Middlesex).
Each city will have its own competition of 20-over midweek evening matches, followed by Leicester v Luton in one inter-city semi-final and London North v London South in the other.
The inter-city knock-out final is scheduled for Grace Road, Leicester, on the morning of Sunday 16 September, to be followed by MCC Young Cricketers v the WCC Combined XI.
At the end of the day the MCC Head Coach Mark Alleyne will offer one of the WCC players a contract to become a MCC Young Cricketer - so someone can turn up at a WCC open trial and become a professional cricketer within a year. Diyapan Paul 18, from London East/Tigers, this season became the first WCC player to become a MCC Young Cricketer.

It is a great opportunity for the talent in Luton to show itself and to unearth more top cricketers like Monty Panesar.

This year's Wisden City Cup promises to be a very exciting competition. Previous years have brought out an abundance of untapped talent who have been given a 'platform to perform.
We are very much looking forward to seeing the four teams in action across the inner London Borounghs of Croydon, Lambeth, Southwark and Wandsworth. We also have some really good coaches for the teams, like Alex Tudor and Carl Greenidge.
Then we have the semi-final between London South and London North to look forward to, and hopefully the inter-city knockout final at Grace Road on 16 September.
Ricky Anderson
London South Co-ordinator
It is great to see that four of Surrey's metropolitan boroughs are entering the Wisden City Cup for the first time. The competition provides a great opportunity for the inner city to showcase its developing young talent, and potential new talent, who come from an environment that often struggles to provide competitive opportunities due to lack of facilities.
It’s an excellent opportunity for all 16-24 year olds to take part and to have ex-professional cricketers like Ricky Anderson, Carl Greenidge and Alex Tudor involved in the organisation and coaching of the teams is absolutely fantastic and the young players will undoubtedly benefit. I have no doubt that it will be a tremendous experience for all involved
